“Das Schöne ist nichts, als des Schrecklichen Anfang, den wir noch grade ertragen. Und wir bewundern es so, weil es gelassen verschmäht, uns zu zerstören.” Rainer Maria Rilke

Lucas Meyer-Leclère crafts unique pieces out of existing garments, bridging couture know-how and hand painting with sustainability. As a statement, the work he creates under his brand LML Studio is placed under the aegis of Elaine Sturtevant’s words: “remake, reuse, reassemble, recombine.”

Trained at Central Saint Martins and still a student he was hired by Karl Lagerfeld to create fabrics for Chanel.  There, he developed hand painting techniques and print designs. He then lived between Milan and London where he designed fabrics for various labels such as Louis Vuitton, Dior, Raf Simons, or Lanvin, and was head of textile accessories for Jimmy Choo. In 2017 he moved to Berlin for his first solo exhibition comprising collages, audio and text-based works at Parochialkirche Berlin. He created LML Studio shortly after; an experiment on clothes using existing materials, retailoring garments whilst continuing a painting practice. Painted Love was his first runway show, closing Berlin’s Fashion Week in 2021 at Kraftwerk, Berlin. Recent contributions include the costume design for productions at Staatsballett Berlin and Komische Oper, Berlin. His latest collection will premiere at a runway show in September 2022 for Berlin Fashion Week.

Face to Faces is Meyer-Leclère’s first installation of paintings and unique garments in a gallery setting. All pieces are one of a kind, hand painted or re-constructed, upcycled materials and garments. They are exclusively be available to the public for a limited amount of time. A series of paintings on photographs by Karen Kiliminik, born out of a collaboration between Lucas Meyer-Leclère and Jamie Morgan, will also be on show.
